THE four-day Commonwealth Youth Programme: Youth Leadership and
Advocacy Workshop that concluded on Tuesday confirmed that the youth of
this country are eager to participate in the national development and
committed to "translating the Vision 2035 to reality by working closely
with the government, private sector and civil society organisations in
compliance with the national philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy."
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam in his titah during National Youth Day 2007 celebration had said that the youth are "dynamic stakeholders" in the nation's survival. Youth are raw energy dynamo waiting to explode and if this energy, enthusiasm, exuberance is properly channelised they can move mountains. But this is a vulnerable lot and if they're not given proper guidance and direction, they may go astray.
That's why His Majesty in his titah on the Fifth National Youth Day in 2010, themed "Entrepreneurship as Catalyst to Self-Reliant Youth", emphasised greater involvement of youth in entrepreneurial activities through training and education to reduce unemployment among them as the future of Brunei heavily depends on youth.
Taking His Majesty's message further, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul 'Azim initiated a series of dialogue with youth, which provided them a new forum to air their views.
This interaction became a new channel between HRH and youth where HRH not only listened to their concerns but also boosted their confidence by telling them to "reach your full potential and be proud of what you do".
It must be mentioned here that with youth comprising more than 50 per cent of the Sultanate's population, this power house has the potential and capability of taking the country to new heights. But youth must also realise that with great power comes greater responsibility.
As advised by His Majesty they should continuously strive for good things and avoid wrongdoings.
